The Sacred Numbers
There are 108 attendants to Shiva in Hinduism. Malas have 108 beads for prayer. In Buddhism there are 108 feelings. In the Lankavatara Sutra Buddha is asked 108 questions. Juzu beads contain 108 beads. Hindu deities have 108 names. According to Ayurveda there are 108 pressure points in the body. The distance of the Earth from the sun is about 108 times the diameter of the sun. The distance between the Earth and Moon is 108 times the diameter of the Moon.
In the Wiccan tradition the rule of three states that whatever you send out will return to you three-fold. The three aspects of womanhood are maiden, mother, crone. Ancient civilizations believed in the Triple Goddess. The three aspects of God in the Christian religions, father, son and spirit. Three master numbers (11, 22, 33) make up the Triangle of Enlightenment. The Three Jewels of Buddhism. The Three Pure Ones of Taoism. The number twelve is referred to many times in the Book of Revelations. There are 12 sections in the Egyptian land of the dead. In Sanskrit the sun has 12 names.
